St Mark’s Basilica (Siyiouni) left two of the best older horses in Europe treading water with a withering burst of speed inside the final quarter of Saturday’s G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
It takes a top-notch three-year-old to win this first big clash of the generations and St Mark’s Basilica, the even-money favourite for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore, crossed the line with the same three-and-a-half- length margin as Golden Horn, the subsequent Arc winner, in 2015.
St Mark’s Basilica’s sire, Siyouni, is a son of the great Pivotal – who also sired out own resident stallion, Wings Of Desire (GB).
We cannot stress enough how valuable the blood of Pivotal will be to South African racing. Support our well-performed stallion!
