Cherry Ano wins for Capetown Noir

Gavin Smith-trained Cherry Ano is one of Gqeberha’s favourite thoroughbred sons – he is one of the best, and gamest, in the region, and exciting to watch when he is in form.

Cherry Ano (Calvin Habib) won his sixth race form 14 starts when he defeated the local star Grazinginthegrass in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m on Friday, 15 March. Versatile, he has won four races over 1400-1600m, on poly and turf – a pleasure for owner/breeder Henning Pretorius, who has collected over R550,000 courtesy of this four-year-old gelding. He was gelded for being troublesome in his races, and after a string of seconds, last August, and has improved with every run since. He has plenty more to come in Pinnacles at Fairview.

Cherry Ano is a son of Capetown Noir (Western Winter) out of a mare by Kahal.
