Sparkling Jubilee could’ve been named ‘Pearl Jubilee’ as she was a 30th Wedding Anniversary Present from Mike to Diane de Kock, but racing partner Chris Haynes named her such after top mare Sparkling Water and the Queen’s Jubilee, which was celebrated in 2022.
All the technicals aside, the daughter of Oratorio and Durban July-placed Zirconeum got it right at her fourth attempt racing over 1200m at the Vaal on Tuesday and it was a good win because it is considered well short of her optimum trip.
Sparkling Jubilee returned from injury and a period of rest, but was presented in good condition by the De Kock team and well ridden by Diego De Gouveia, who had a lot of filly under him approaching the 300m mark. She ran through well and disposed of challenger Primrose Path with the balance of the field three lengths and more behind them.
“She’ll win again if we can keep her sound,” Mike commented.
Sparkling Jubilee was raised at Gauteng’s Heversham Park Stud. Her half-sister, said to be a smart young filly by Wings Of Desire, will come under the hammer at the National Two-Year-Old Sale in August. – mikedekockracing.com
