THE Gr2 Dingaans at Turffontein has forever been one of South Africa’s most prestigious races for three-year-olds, and Heversham Park-bred Battle Of Alesia finished a game fourth in the 2019 renewal on Summer Cup day, 2019.
Battle Of Alesia’s form coming into the race included a third to Saturday’s Gr1 Summer Cup winner Zillzaal, but he was friendless in the market starting at 70-1.
He ran on strongly from behind, challenged the front ranks and was beaten only 4.75-lengths in this competitive field.
Battle Of Alesia, by Vercingetorix from Fortification, has never been unplaced in eight career starts.
