HEVERSHAM Park’s Nigel Riley was active at the two major mares sales held in May 2019, the Cape Mare Sale at Mistico and the Moutonshoek Dispersal Sale in Piketberg.
As always committed to improving the farm’s broodmare band, Riley bought shrewdly, paying from 3,000 to R110,000 for a total of 15 mares, some in foal, all healthy and all having made the trip since from the Cape to the Gauteng farm.
Heversham’s top purchase was the Gr1 Woolavington winner Zirconeum (Jallad), for R110,000. Also bought was another Woolavington winner Count The Money (Among Men) as well as Arabian Secret (Al Mufti), the dam of 2018 Summer Cup stakes earner, Noble Secret.
The other purchases all cover exciting local and international bloodlines and Riley commented: “With our other resident Gr1 performing mares including Eurobamba (Fort Wood) and Las Ramblas (Toreador), and the proven Pinky And The Brain (Hawk Wing), we’re going to give our stallion Wings Of Desire (GB) a good chance.
“Never before has a stallion based in Gauteng had an opportunity with so many Graded winning or placed mares, and we certainly look forward to it.”
