HERODOTUS, Green Street Bloodstock’s R170,000 purchase from Heversham Park Farm in 2017, ran a terrific race in the Gr1 Cape Derby on Sun Met Day 2019, finishing a close third to the imported Atyaab (AUS).
Herodutus had to race from a wide draw and his jockey Keagan De Melo was forced to take a drifting front-runner into account going into the last 400m, but they kept going in gutsy fashion and fought for third place, beaten only 2.45-lengths.
Herodotus competed against some expensive rivals. The winner Atyaab cost $AUS250,000, while runner-up Charles fetched R6-million at the 2017 Cape Premier Sale, and was the top-priced yearling of his generation.
Herodotus presented Heversham Park Farm with a Gr1-placing from a small first crop of runners.
The son of Trippi and Pinkyandthebrian has earned R285,000 from only seven career starts.
