CTS April Sale reflects buyers’ market

THE CTS April Yearling Sale reached an aggregate of R20,335-million after two days of bidding at Durbanville last Friday.

In total, 208 of 288 lots presented were sold at a combined average for the three sessions of R97,764 and a median of R60,000.

Klawervlei topped the vendor’s list with 37 yearlings sold at an average of R204,324, followed by Winterbach Stud with 13 sold at R144,615.

Chris van Niekerk’s Rainbow Beach Trading was the leading buyer, securing nine yearlings at an average R178,888 per purchase, followed by Bass Racing, who bought six, averaging R227,500.

What A Winter, Master Of My Fate and Vercingetorix were the first three respectively on the list of sires.

Wèhann Smith, CEO of CTS, commented: “Conditions were tough, but the sale was well attended by a good cross-section of buyers, many of whom used the opportunity to secure excellent value purchases. The sale reflected a buyers’ market and there were some notable highlights, including a R700,000 Silvano colt.

“With good buys popping up consistently, there were buyers who obtained a few good pin-hooks and we look forward to seeing them at our Ready To Run Sale in November,” Smith concluded.
