Our commitment to improving our bloodstock is starting to pay off. Heversham Park has had 13 runners this season for five individual winners in South Africa and Mauritius. The winning strike rate is 39%, and the winners have been Sparkling Jubilee (photo, resold on an online sale for R250,000 after five career wins), Blindfire, Euphrates, Manalaus and Canford Club.
While a number of our older mares will be retired, including Zirconeum and Pinky and the Brain, over 40 well-bred younger mares are fully active and producing foals of high quality as will be seen on this year’s Bloodstock SA National Yearling Sale and other auctions.
Farm Manager Nadia Duvenhage is excited and said: “There are beautiful yearlings going to Nationals, and we’re discussing where some of the others will go later this year. Over the next few seasons Heversham is going to make big progress with the stock we’re seeing on the ground, and what is still to come from our broodmare band.
